Why "pluriversal", and what this research line investigates.
The idea
Pluriverse is the idea that there isn't a single world to be described by a single science, but many worlds — each with its own ways of knowing and inhabiting the Earth. Rather than treating ecological science as the destination to which other knowledges should be translated, this research line starts from the premise that philosophy of ecology, anthropology and Indigenous sciences have something to say to one another — not because they describe the same thing in different ways, but because each reveals what the others leave out.
The work doesn't seek a synthesis that dissolves the differences, nor a hierarchy between "science" and "traditional knowledge". The question that organises the inquiry is simpler and harder: what does each way of knowing make visible, and what does it make invisible?
Coordination
This research line is coordinated by Rafael L. G. Raimundo, professor in the Department of Engineering and Environment at UFPB, where he coordinates the Graduate Programme in Ecology and Environmental Monitoring (PPGEMA) and the IDEAL International Joint Laboratory, in cooperation with IRD (France).
